ISHPEMING — Ishpeming High School sustained severe flood damage when a water pipe broke over the weekend and roof drains flooded during Tuesday’s storm. “It’s been a bad week for water damage here,” said Superintendent Stephen Pierson, who discovered the flooding Sunday. “The water was over your shoes on the second floor,” he said. He traced the water to a broken water pipe feeding a second-floor water fountain. “The flooding essentially destroyed the business office–the desks, furniture and documents,” he said. Rain flooded the high school’s roof drains and gutters Tuesday, damaging a third-floor classroom. The rain also flooded the cafeteria at Phelps School. The district is seeking repair estimates from contractors and expects the costs to be covered by insurance.
