MUNISING — Conservation groups want Congress to put up $3.9 million to buy nearly 12,000 acres near the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The request for the 1995 budget year is part of a $7 million request for the purchase of environmentally sensitive land in northern Michigan. Pictured Rocks Superintendent Grant Petersen said the land is needed to maintain quality, but with federal budget constraints he doesn t expect the park will get what the coalition wants. Money for acquisitions comes from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which gets more than 80 percent of its money from offshore oil drilling royalties
