MARQUETTE — The Marquette City Commission is expected to give initial approval to contracts for the construction of the Cinder Pond Marina Project. Bids were let Dec. 29 on the project’s three phases. The commission is scheduled to give the first reading on the awarding of contracts when it meets tonight. The marina, at the east end of Lower Harbor Park, eventually will have around 100 boat slips, an office, a fueling station and boater facilities including restrooms, showers and a concrete launch ramp. The city has obtained a $1.4 million state Waterways Commission grant to help pay for the $2.7 million project. The balance will be paid with marina revenues. The project is expected to be completed in 1995. The city commission meets at 7 p.m. in the commission chambers at city hall.

TRENARY — The ski hill on Trout Lake Road is now ready for the winter season. The Lions Club has added many features this year, including restrooms, a warming shack and an improved toboggan run. This skiing area has been developed for the use of local residents and a nominal fee will be charged for families by the season or by the day. The ski tow will be in operation each Sunday afternoon and fees may be paid to Toivo Aho, Ronald Hawley, Frank Richmond or Arthur Marinello. The club also maintains and chaperones the skating rink at the school.
