HANNAHVILLE — Upper Peninsula Indian tribes may soon get back artifacts and human remains of their ancestors from museums nationwide. Universities and museums around the country are painstakingly cataloguing their Indian objects under a law that could result in many of the artifacts being turned over to tribal authorities. “Our tribe has already been contacted by quite a number of museums nationwide,” said Ken Meshigaud, tribal chairman of the Hannahville Indian Community in Menominee County. The 1990 federal law gives publicly funded institutions until November to turn over detail lists of their Indian items to tribes that may have a claim on them.

MARQUETTE — Marquette will be visited by around 200 skiers this weekend when five chartered buses will come here early Saturday morning. The Vagabond Ski Club of Milwaukee is making its seventh annual appearance here. The members will lodge at the Hotel Northland and ski at Cliffs Ridge. An event-filled weekend is the agenda for members of the club. Saturday morning there will be “silly” races, followed by a costume party in the afternoon. Both the races and the party are scheduled to take place while the participant is skiing. Sunday will wrap up the outing with serious races for all Vagabonders.
