Special Olympics athletes are getting the jump on decorating a Christmas tree, as they invite the public to an event very near and dear to their hearts. The 38th annual Trim the Tree Holiday Celebration takes place from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn in Marquette. The fundraiser allows residents to celebrate the season with Special Olympics Area 36 athletes and volunteers. The organization is asking for increased support this year after the storage facility that housed the athletes’ equipment burned down last December. Food and beverages are available and the public is welcome. Donations can also be made at www.somi.org/area36.
