ISHPEMING – A shower and changing building that will service three baseball fields and the football field at the Ishpeming Playgrounds will finally get hot water. The city council recently approved a $5,558 contract with Symons True Value Hardware in Ishpeming to install a system that includes a 75-gallon hot water heater and pump, five temperature mixing valves and two 300-gallon storage tanks, said City Manager John Korhonen. The hot water will be for two showering areas. Last summer the city finished the inside of the building, including a heating system in the concrete floors, showers and benches. The hot water system will be installed by spring.

ISHPEMING – Santa Claus will arrive in Ishpeming at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon to distribute hundreds of pounds of candy to children, who will greet him at the city square corner of Main and Canda streets where the flagpole is located. Tomorrow night the Ishpeming Good Fellows, who are being assisted by other charities in Ishpeming, will bring cheer into the homes of needy families when they distribute baskets loaded with food and other necessities. Ishpeming streets have numerous displays worthy of mention, including Michigan Gas and Electric company’s building, clusters of colored lights surrounding the top of the Gossard factory building, and a star on top of the water dome that is visible for miles. There is also a Christmas tree with flashing lights above the Ishpeming theater marquee and a large Christmas wreath between the Quaal and Quaal and Rosberg stores.
