MARQUETTE – The salon staff at J.C. Penney in Marquette won the Personal Best trophy from J.C. Penney Co. for the months of July, August and September. Hairdressers and salon staff receiving the award were Rena Meni, Heidi Luoma, Barb Bahrman, Sherri Nottle, Jessica Wasilewski, Tina Siebe, Debbie Enright, Denise Heggaton, Becky Carlson, Polly Suhs, Monica Anderson, and Marrina Vuksinic. The award reflects the highest Penneys salon achievement, signifying excellent growth and outstanding service. The Marquette salon won the traveling award in competition with salons in Wisconsin, northern Illinois, eastern Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula.

90 years ago

ISHPEMING – Before an audience of more than 100 persons in the high school auditorium here tonight the Ishpeming negative debating team defeated the Gladstone affirmative team, two to one. The judges were Professor H.D. Lee and Professor C. C. Wiggins, of the Northern State Teachers college, and Guy Schutte, superintendent of schools in Republic. This was the only home debate on Ishpeming’s schedule for the preliminary round in the U.P. high school debate league. Ishpeming’s next debate will be in Manistique on January 12.
