Upper Peninsula medical student inducted into MSU honor society

MARQUETTE –An Upper Peninsula medical student attending Michigan State University has been recognized for her work in patient-centered care.

Amanda Ziminski, medical student at the MSU College of Human Medicine U.P. Campus was selected for induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Gold Humanism Honor Society members are nominated by their peers and selected by a committee composed of staff, faculty, and clerkship directors. Awardees are recognized for outstanding performance as a student practicing patient-centered care and exemplifying qualities of integrity, excellence, compassion, altruism, respect, and empathy.

“I am very proud of Amanda for her outstanding qualities in receiving this honorary distinction,” said Community Assistant Dean, Stuart Johnson, DO. “Providing compassionate care benefits our patients as much as it benefits our student learners.”

The fourth-year medical student, is a U.P. native and member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. She grew up in Manistique, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology from MSU, and will become a Spartan MD in May of 2024.

Ziminski is pursuing a career in pediatrics.

The MSU College of Human Medicine Upper Peninsula Education Corporation works in conjunction with UP Health System-Marquette to coordinate the training of family medicine and psychiatry residents and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine UP Campus medical students. Since its inception in 1974, 340 medical stu-dents, 2 psychiatry resident physicians, and 228 family medicine physicians have graduated from these programs.
