Two National Mine students competed in grades 7-9 – Debbie Lowes and Amber Tonge. These students challenged spellers from around the Upper Peninsula in a bee on Nov. 13, again in Ishpeming. Melanie Tonge placed first among grades 4-6, while Amber Tonge won in grades 7-9. Those winners will compete in state competition on Feb. 4-5 in Flint and metro Detroit.
