MARQUETTE — A multi-media lab, open to students and faculty of Northern Michigan University will be assisted by a $125,000 gift of computer equipment from AT&T College and University Systems through its Equipment Donation Program. After configuring the equipment to suit NMU’s needs, it was recently installed in the Thomas Fine Arts Building. The donation included 14 workstations, each with built-in CD-ROMS, and software. A single CD-ROM disk has the capability to hold 270,000 pages of text. Also included were a server, 15 local area network cards, and a printer. “Two of the computers contain special equipment that will allow faculty to create interactive courseware incorporating sound, graphics, and video for classroom usage,” said John Limback, NMU director of academic computing. “Students will use the other 14 stations to interact with courseware, such as chemistry experiments, for example,” he added. Valerie Turner, NMU director of telephone systems, requested the donation from AT&T.
