ISHPEMING — Mining Journal carrier Kyle Kinnunen, 11, of Ishpeming recently received a $100 United States Savings Bond for promptly reporting an early morning house fire he spotted while delivering the newspaper on Sept. 4 on the 100 block of York St. in Ishpeming. The bond was awarded by The Peninsula Rebekah Lodge 173 and the Odd Fellow Ahmeek Lodge 150. Presenting the award were Kenneth Alderton, past Noble Grand and past state Grand Master; Carmen Waters, lodge member and award organizer; and Ishpeming Fire Chief Ray Perrault. Kinnunen started delivering for the Mining Journal in August and has 33 customers. The Odd Fellow Ahmeek Lodge, which was founded on Feb. 10, 1871, has donated about $3,000 to local, state, and national charities this year, while The Peninsula Rebekah Lodge, founded 102 years ago and comprised mainly of women, annually donates thousands of dollars to charity.

MARQUETTE — The social service committee of the Women of the Moose is sponsoring a card party in the Moose Home at 2 tomorrow afternoon. There will be a prize for high score at each table. Lunch will be served. Players are asked to bring their own cards and any paraphernalia needed in the game of their choice such as cribbage boards, canasta trays, etc. Chairman Mrs. James Frazier announces that proceeds from the party will be used to prepare Christmas baskets for the needy. Other members of the social service committee are Mrs. Albert McLean, Mrs. Bernard McAuliffe and Mrs. Gerald Peterson.
