MARQUETTE – Officials of Bishop Baraga Central High School have terminated the agreement between the city and the school for a city playground on school property at the southeast corner of S. Fifth and Spring Streets. Notification was given to the Marquette City Commission at its special meeting this week by the Rev. Glen G. Weber, superintendent of Bishop Baraga. The agreement was made between the Catholic Diocese of Marquette and the City of Marquette for the use of school property for public playground purposes. The property in question had been used for baseball-softball during the summer months and for an ice rink during the winter season. On the suggestion of City Attorney Waldo A. McCrea, Mayor C. Fred Rydholm directed that City Clerk Everett H. Kent acknowledge the communication from Father Weber. “We are happy that this arrangement between the high school and the city was possible,” Father Weber said, “but we feel that our needs require this property for our use in our expanded extra-curricular activities.
