MARQUETTE — The Marquette City Commission chose Commissioner Sally Davis to succeed Cody Mayer as Marquette Mayor during a Monday meeting.

Commissioners unanimously chose Davis to take over the role and chose Commissioner Jessica Hanley to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem. Davis steps into the role that had been previously held by Mayer, who was sworn into another term as a member of the commission after winning reelection earlier this month. Mayer was joined in the swearing-in process by Hanley and Paul Schloegel who were also chosen by voters last week.

Davis was elected to the commission in 2019. She has served on many boards in her nearly 40 years of work in the Marquette area.

Schloegel comes to the commission after serving on the Marquette Board of Light and Power. He was elected to a three-year term where he will take the spot of term-limited Commissioner Frederick Stonehouse.

Hanley has served on the commission for two terms. She took a position as the Executive Director of the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum last October.
