Armistice Day Storm remembered

MARQUETTE — Maritime Maritime Museum’s Maritime History on Tap presents “The Armistice Day Storm of 1940” with National Weather Service Forecaster Joe Phillips at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Ore Dock Brewing Company.

Nov. 11, 1940, Armistice Day (or Veteran’s Day), began with blue skies and temperatures in the 40s and 50s, but a rapidly deepening low-pressure system moved into the Upper Great Lakes.

Within 24 hours, the system would rank among the most infamous and disastrous blizzards in U.S. history with over 150 deaths.

Joe Phillips will discuss the storm and how it changed forecasting procedures. $5 suggested donation at the door. For more information: mqtmaritimemanager@gmail.com or 906-226-2006
