ISHPEMING -- The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Cliff Shaft Mine Museum, 501 W. Euclid St. in Ishpeming.
Doors will open at 1 p.m. to allow members and visitors time to bid on silent auction specimens and to view the club's mineral collection. The speaker will begin at 1:30 pm.
John Gilner, local collector and avocational/amateur archaeologist will present us "The Art of Flint Knapping." Gilner will show us how he shapes flint or other stone through the process of lithic reduction to manufacture or create stone tools, strikers, ancient looking weapons or to simply produce flat-faced stones for building and decoration.
A door prize drawing, a 50/50 drawing and a business meeting will follow the program.
Everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy, and learn about the wonders of rocks and minerals. There is no admission charged.
