MARQUETTE — Today marks the last day of the 1993 general trout season in Michigan. Beginning Friday, trout and salmon can only be caught in the Great Lakes, streams with extended seasons and inland lakes not designated trout lakes. The 1993 Michigan Fishing Guide lists streams with extended seasons and inland lakes that are designated as trout lakes.

90 years ago

MARQUETTE — A picture of former world champion Guernsey cow with a yearly record of 14,166.8 pounds of milk and 662.5 pounds of fat, of the Loma Farms herd of Marquette, has been published in the recent state college bulletin entitled “Fitting and Showing Dairy Cattle and Major Cattle Breeds.” The animal was the grand champion cow of the Michigan state fair and national dairy cattle congress of 1929 and was owned by L.G. Kaufman.
