MARQUETTE- Summer grills are once again giving way to stoves, and that means The Mining Journal Cookoff is just around the corner. This year's cookoff will be Saturday, Oct 30 at Northern Michigan University's Jacobetti Center. The event brings together some of Upper Michigan's best chefs for a day of food and fun. Judges will award prizes to cooks with the top recipes. As always, Mining Journal readers invited to enter one recipe in any or all of the six cookoff categories.

GWINN -- An annual inspection of the 410th Bombardment Wing's standardization division at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base will be conducted by the 1st Combat Evaluation Group (CEG) during the coming two weeks. The group of 18 officers and five enlisted men from Barksdale AFB, LA are scheduled to arrive Sunday for the yearly inspection. The CEG will also inspect the 644th Bombardment Squadron and the 46th Air Refueling Squadron. The group checks the evaluation procedures and the ability of all units to perform their assigned missions.
