HARVEY — Teachers at the new Cherry Creek Elementary School in Chocolay Township are especially excited about going back to school this year. “Coming to work will be like Christmas every day,” said third grade teacher Joann Hakala. “It’s so exciting- everything is brand new. New desks, new carpeting, a beautiful library, a computer lab — everything we ever wanted.”

An open house runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a dedication ceremony beginning at 7 p.m.

MARQUETTE — A record summer tourist season came to a sudden halt this weekend, but Labor Day no longer means the end of vacation visitors in Marquette.

During September the Marquette Chamber of Commerce will remain open on Saturdays to serve the growing number of travelers who seek views of Northern Michigan’s autumn colors.

In addition the chamber’s staff are already answering inquiries on hunting lodges and skiing accommodations.

Starting at $3.23/week.
