MARQUETTE – Lakeview Arena is getting a new roof. The Marquette City Commission voted unanimously Monday to award a $25,254 contract to Pellow Roofing of Marquette to replace the arena’s roof. The roof hasn’t been replaced since the building was constructed in 1974, City Manager Dale Iman told commissioners. Iman recommended the city approve the Pellow bid. Two other firms submitted bids on the project. Bell Roofing of Marquette bid $26,067 and Local Roofing, Inc. of L’Anse bid $34,538.

ESCANABA – Owners and operators of automobile sales and service garages will meet at the Delta hotel in Escanaba on Friday, August 11, under the sponsorship of the Michigan Automotive Trade association, H.J. Norton announced yesterday. It is expected that the meeting will be attended by more than 150 automobile men from all parts of the upper peninsula, in addition to some from lower Michigan. State officers of the association will come to the meeting to explain the proposed code to govern sales and service garages under the national recovery act.
