ESCANABA — The Delta County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the help of anyone who may have had cameras pointed towards M-35 between Escanaba and Cedar River, which could provide valuable information about the murder of 22-year-old Harley Corwin.

According to the sheriff’s office, the department will be reviewing any available footage for a specific vehicle that may have been used during the incident. That information will be used to develop a timeline of events related to the case.

Anyone with cameras filming in the area are asked to call the Delta County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 906-217-0029 and leave a message. An officer will return your call.

Corwin’s body was found Saturday in the woods in Ford River Township. She had previously been reported missing to Escanaba Public Safety, which is assisting in the investigation.

Social media posts made by Corwin prior to her disappearance indicate that she was pregnant at the time of her death.

On Monday, Tavaris Lee Jackson, Jr., age 32 of 611 S. 13th Street in Escanaba, was arraigned in Delta County District Court on a single count of homicide – open murder, in connection with Corwin’s death. The open murder designation allows for the degree of the charge to be determined after evidence has been presented, but the felony charge could carry a punishment of up to life in prison.

After weighing the threat to the public and Jackson’s prior criminal history, 94th District Court Magistrate Jeana LaCarte, who presided over the arraignment hearing, set bond at $750,000 cash or surety. If released on bond, Jackson would be subject to a number of restrictions that functionally place him on house arrest.

Jackson was ordered not to be within 1,000 feet of Corwin’s residence or her parents residence if he is released on bond. Regardless of whether or not he is released or remains in the Delta County Jail, Jackson was ordered not to have contact with 19 individuals, including two women with whom Jackson has children.

Despite the possibility of bond, Jackson was still lodged in the Delta County Jail as of Wednesday afternoon.

While times were not set in court, two dates were announced for future court hearings in Jackson’s case. A probable cause conference, which is closed to the public, is set for July 20. His next court date that will be open to the public is a preliminary examination set for July 27.
