NEGAUNEE -- Director Lucas Wickstrom has announced the numbers for the concert to be played on Wednesday evening at 7:30 at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street.
The concert, which features a patriotic theme, will open with "Celebration Fanfare" by well-known conductor and composer, Steven Reineke.
"Irving Berlin's Songs for America" includes "Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor," "This Is the Army, Mr. Jones," "This Is a Great Country," and "God Bless America." A second medley, "American Sketches," pays tribute to America's folk music heritage with "The Shantyman's Life," "The Erie Canal," and "Shoo Fly."
The band is pleased to present as special guests for this concert the Ishpeming Blue Notes Drumline. After their performance, the concert continues with "In Praise of Freedom" an uplifting piece in which brass, woodwinds, and percussion take turns sharing the spotlight. "There's Something about a Soldier" is a great example of a patrol, depicting a band passing by on parade.
Independence Day favorites are "Battle Hymn of the Republic," followed by the Official March of the United States of America, "The Stars and Stripes Forever," featuring the band's tubas and piccolos.
As always, the concert will conclude with "Just a Closer Walk with Thee."
