Marquette band concert Thursday

MARQUETTE -- The Marquette City Band, conducted by Stephen Grugin and assisted by Gordon Erickson, will feature a special youth trumpet soloist on its upcoming Children's Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Presque Isle Band Shell.

Ryo Morita, a recent graduate of Ann Arbor Pioneer High School who will be attending the Julliard School of Music in New York this fall, will perform the "Fantasie Brillante" by Jean Baptiste Arban. She will also join city Band trumpeters Madeline Gabka and Niana Hughey on Leroy Anderson's "Bugler's Holiday."

Other selections on the program will include: "The Lion King" by Elton John and Hans Zimmer; "Epic Gaming Themes" arranged by Paul Murtha; "The Mandalorian" by Ludwig Goransson; "A Trumpeter's Lullaby" by Leroy Anderson; and "American Big Top" by Brian Balmages.

The concert is free and donations are appreciated. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at Northern Michigan University's Reynolds Recital Hall.
