Tree planting event planned

NEWBERRY — The public is invited to join the Michigan United Conservation Club’s On the Ground program in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for a upcoming volunteer tree planting day in Luce County.

The habitat improvement project will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 10. Volunteers will meet at the Newberry DNR Customer Service Center at 10 a.m. They are asked to arrive 5 to 10 minutes early to sign-in.

Volunteers will assist in planting nearly 100 oak and apple trees on public land in to establish soft and hard mast that will benefit various species of wildlife including white-tailed deer.

Free lunch and an appreciation gift will be provided to all registered volunteers. Visit bit.ly/3OU2PTt to view project details and volunteer registration.
