30 years ago

MARQUETTE – Marquette Senior High School seniors Michele Olds and Mike Lusk came away as the big winners at the Superiorland Kiwanis 1992-93 MSHS Athletes of the Year banquet at the Ramada Inn. Olds participated in three varsity sports: basketball, volleyball and track. In basketball, she was selected First Team all-Conference in both the Great Northern and Great Lakes Conferences. As a member of the volleyball team, Olds garnered GNC Second Team honors and was named to the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Association Class-A All-Region Team. In track, she earned all-state honors in three events. Lusk participated in football, alpine skiing and track, earning eight varsity letters. This past season, Lusk earned GNC First Team laurels in football and honorable mention All-U.P. status. In skiing, Lusk was the state U.P. regional champion in giant slalom and was named to the All-U.P. Second Team. In track, Lusk was a medalist in the shot put at the U.P. Track and Field Championships.

June 17, 1933 – NEGAUNEE – English Oak lodge No. 230, American Order of Sons of St. George, have elected and installed the following officers for the ensuing year: Past worthy president – Serie Bath; President – John Toms, Jr.; Vice-president – Garfield Rice; Secretary – Joseph Curtis; Assistant secretary – John Williams; Messenger – Roy Stevens; Assistant messenger – Arthur Andrews; Chaplain – Russell Toms; Inside sentinel – Fred Wrigley; Outside sentinel – Elisha Polkinghorne; Trustee – Sidney Northey.
