MSU to host forage field day

CHATHAM — The Michigan State University-Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center will host a Forage Field Day to educate farmers and the public on forages, grasses and legumes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 13.

The center is located at E3774 University Drive in Chatham.

The free event will include a lunch featuring beef form the UPREC herd of Red Angus cattle. MSU’s forage specialist, Kim Cassida, will be the featured speaker, supposed by UPREC and MSU Extension staff.

Participants will have an opportunity to view research plots of alfalfa and grass used to feed livestock, and will learn best practices for managing hayfields and pasture in the U.P. Call 906-439-5114 to register.
