MARQUETTE --UP Health Systems and Michigan State University announced the addition of Ashley Parent, MD to the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program as a faculty member of the program.
Dr. Parent earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Michigan University and attended Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan.
She spent the last two years of medical school in the Rural Physicians Program at the UP Campus in Marquette.
Dr. Parent attended the Internal Medicine Residency at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating from the program in June of 2021.
Dr. Parent grew up in Marquette, graduating from Marquette Senior High School in 2008. Being able to return to the UP as a board-certified internist, and a member of the community amongst family and friends, has been fulfilling to her.
"I look forward to working with the Family Medicine residents during their training," said Dr. Parent. "I have been fortunate to have had many wonderful mentors, and I hope that I can provide that support to others."
According to the release, under her position as a new faculty member, Dr. Parent is responsible for precepting residents, curriculum oversight, and providing ongoing support throughout the program's clinical, teaching, and administrative duties.
"We're all very excited to add Dr. Parent as a faculty member," said Program Director, Dr. Brian Waite. "Being from the UP, she understands our patients and their needs, but coming from an Internal Medicine program she brings experience and training we wouldn't otherwise be able to provide our residents. We look forward to seeing all the great things she can bring to us."
Outside of the office, Dr. Parent said she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and their two dogs. She also enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, and spending time outdoors.
