CHRISTMAS -- An Ishpeming woman is charged with third-degree arson stemming from an incident that took place in October 2021, the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post said in a news release.
During the course of an unrelated investigation, detectives from the Negaunee Post learned of an incident that occurred in Alger County involving an assault and arson that was unreported. After further investigation, detectives learned a 63-year-old male victim, who at the time was residing at a residence in Christmas, was allegedly assaulted by his wife.
The investigation revealed the suspect poured lighter fluid on the victim and started him on fire.
The fire was quickly extinguished with no injury to the victim.
The suspect, Julie Boxley, 52, is from Ishpeming. She is charged with third-degree arson as well as assault with the intent to do great bodily harm.
Boxley was arraigned in the 93rd District Court in Alger County on Thursday and is currently lodged at the Alger County Sheriff's Office.
