City band concert tonight

MARQUETTE — The Marquette City Band, conducted by Stephen Grugin and assisted by Gordon Erickson, will present the first concert of its 2023 Summer Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Band Shell in Presque Isle Park.

This marks the 137th year of performances by Marquette’s community band.

The program, having the theme “Summer Season Opener,” will feature a variety of traditional and contemporary band music, including the following:

“Les Preludes” by Franz Liszt

“With Pleasure” by John Philip Sousa

“Celtic Wedding” by Jeremy Bell

“Autumn Leaves” by Joseph Kosma

“Epic Gaming Themes” arranged by Paul Murtha

“Ambush” by Dakota Pederson

“El Choclo” by A. G. Villoldo

“Opening Night on Broadway” arranged by Michael Brown

“The Glory of the Yankee Navy” by John Philip Sousa

The concert is free and donations are appreciated. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at NMU’s Reynolds Recital Hall.
