MARQUETTE — Smoke and fire damage resulted to a residence on Harrison St. as a result of a blaze yesterday afternoon. It was one of four fires the city fire department battled during the weekend. City firemen were called at 1:50 pm. On arrival they noticed the blaze originated in the basement of the residence. To firemen entered the house wearing gasmasks to control the blaze. Fire Chief John W. Myers said the fire itself was confined to the basement and was caused by a short circuit in the wiring, from “overfusing” or using a fuse larger than the size recommended. One fireman laid down his gas mask momentarily after coming from the basement and said that when he returned he discovered someone had stolen the bag it’s carried in. “I don’t know why anyone would want this or why they would steal it,” Chief Myers commented.
