MARQUETTE — Seventy-one persons, representing banks and law enforcement agencies in the Upper Peninsula, attended a bank robbery conference conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the Clifton Hotel Yesterday. Bernard C. Brown, special agent in charge, Detroit FBI office, said that more bank robberies are occurring in rural areas throughout the nation, making it advisable to alert both banks and law enforcement agencies in the U.P. Brown pointed out that although there have been only two bank robberies in the U.P. in the last 30 years, there have been 23 bank robberies elsewhere in Michigan since the first of this year. Michigan State Police noticed the effectiveness of road blockades, and pointed out the importance of descriptions of the robbers in apprehending the culprits.
