MARQUETTE — The grand opening of Presque Isle Park will be marked with the 1993 Walk Michigan Kick Off at 1 p.m. Sunday. Marquette is one of 10 cities in Michigan that will host kick off activities for Walk Michigan, a free non-competitive program promoting good health through walking in Michigan parks. The Presque Isle road will be closed until 2 p.m. Sunday for safety.

MARQUETTE — Automobiles will be safety checked this weekend as a public service provided by the automobile division of the Marquette Chamber of Commerce. Bill Evert, chairman of the division, said the check will be conducted on Bluff St., between N. Seventh St and Park Ave. Volunteer mechanics are being provided by the new car dealers, five major oil companies, and two automobile supply houses in Marquette, Evert said. For cars in top mechanical condition, a “safety OK” sticker will be issued. Other drivers will receive a list of services needed. The check is being planned with the cooperation of the city, county and state law enforcement officers.
