MARQUETTE — A trip by Upper Peninsula residents to the rainforests of Brazil should prove educational – providing they can avoid gold diggers, poachers and razor-toothed piranha. The group, including two Marquette women, is part of a six-member Rotary International exchange team that will leave the United States May 20th. The team will explore the largest bird and wildlife sanctuary in the world. A Brazilian exchange group sponsored by Rotary District 6220 has been visiting the U.P. and northern Wisconsin for several weeks. Only one of the visitors had ever seen snow, but they arrived in time to witness the last blizzard of the winter.

MARQUETTE — Tomorrow is circus day. The Shrine Circus comes to Marquette for matinee and evening performances in the Northern Michigan University field house tomorrow and Wednesday. Times change, and circuses, too. But the circus thrill remains. For many an adult circus day brings back nostalgic memories. From the opening “spectacular” to the closing exit march, the Shrine Circus again proves “there’s no business like show business,” sponsors said. Bands, pageantry, wild animals, acrobats, beautiful ladies, elephants, clowns and tight wire walkers are in store for circus fans at the circus.
