MARQUETTE: Girl Scouts in Troop 5021 will join Marquette Rotarians and staff from Superior Watershed Partnership in planting native trees and pollinator gardens on Wednesday. The plantings will take place at Superior Hills Elementary and Sandy Knoll Elementary schools. "We are seeking to empower girls with the skills that will help sustain our environment," said Rotary project lead Chuck Blaksmith. "We will also demonstrate that though collaboration of various organizations we can create a better world."Ten 3-foot tall native trees will be planted at each school, as well as 38 plants within Monarch Waystation Gardens. Superior Watershed Partnership is providing expertise in tree and plant selection, planting demonstration, and environmental education."This is a great opportunity for the girls to get hands-on experience, and gain a sense of pride as they watch their plantings grow over the years," said Troop 5021 leader Alison Ladd. Other Girl Scouts, their family members, friends and school personnel are invited to join the plantings that will start at 4 p.m. Wednesday at both schools.
