NEGAUNEE -- The Lions Clubs of Negaunee and Ishpeming will build raised garden beds in the courtyard of Lakeview Elementary School in Negaunee from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The community is encouraged to participate in creating the garden, which will have 20 garden beds, with two being wheelchair-accessible and one that will be used for demonstration.
The project stems from the successful 2022 garden project at Birchview Elementary School in Ishpeming where students learn to grow their own vegetables to be served as part of the school's lunch program, also known as a Farm to School program.
The project is being led by Dan Perkins of the Ishpeming Lions and Gary Perala of the Negaunee Lions along with Sarah Weaver from Lakeview School.
