ISHPEMING — The Cognition Brewing Company in Ishpeming will close its doors on May 31.
Owner Jay Clancey posted on Facebook Friday morning that the liquor license for Cognition will not be renewed due the owners of the Mather Inn seeking their own license.
“Our focus will be on moving equipment out, as well as brewing and serving at Kognisjon Bryggeri in Marquette,” Clancey said on the company’s Facebook page. “Please stop in for a visit on North Third (street). You’ll feel right at home, since it is kinda Ishpeming-y down there.”
Starting on Friday, customers can purchase three crowlers for the price of two until sales end after Memorial Day weekend.
“On a personal note, the experience of constructing a brewery in the building that my grandfather dedicated in 1931 has been a labor of love that has enriched my life considerably,” Clancey said. “Brian Richards and I put a lot of hard effort into squeezing that brewery into an unlikely space.”
Clancey continued saying the company continues to be proud of the beers created, while having stewardship of the historic taproom at The Mather has been a unique honor.
“I am very lucky to have had many fantastic employees over the last eight years and appreciate every one of them,” Clancey said. “Renewing old friendships and making so many new ones has been worth every drop of sweat.”
Kognisjon Bryggeri is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 1034 N. Third St. in Marquette. For more information, call 906-273-2727.
