Gardeners to meet Saturday
MARQUETTE —“Willow Garden Structures, Growing & Harvesting Willow for the Garden” is the presentation planned for Saturday’s meeting of the U.P. Master Gardener Association.
The meeting starts at 1 p.m. in The George Shiras Room at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette and the public is welcome.
According to an association press release: “In January 2019, Poppy Hatinger gave an interesting presentation titled ‘A Garden to “DYE” for’, where she described the process of using various plants for making dyes for her arts and crafts. Poppy is back this month for another unusual presentation on growing willow that she will then harvest and use for creating sculptures for her garden.”
Poppy Hatinger has lived and gardened in the challenges of the Upper Peninsula for 30-plus years, growing vegtables, perenials and cultivated basketry willows.
She said she enjoys sharing her journey as willow weaver and teaching willow weaving and fiber arts.
