MARQUETTE — On-Cue Productions of Marquette has won the Michigan Outdoor Writers Association’s Teddy Award for Best Outdoor Travel Program. “Isle Royale Reflections,” produced by Frida Waara and Mike Settles, was one of 14 programs to earn the prestigious award. The Teddys are named in honor of Theodore Roosevelt, the nation’s first conservation-minded president. Waara owns On-Cue Productions and Settles is a producer/director at WNMU-Public TV-13. The pair spent 17 days on the island following four artists as they explored the country’s most isolated national park. Perennial winner ABC-TV took three awards for programs documenting South America’s rain forests, life in modern Siberia, and a trip riding the rails with real-life hobos. ESPN-TV took three awards for programs featuring the Grand Canyon, Africa’s lions, leopards and cheetahs, and an expedition to Mount Cook. “It’s an honor to be recognized with such nationally acclaimed producers of outdoor programming,” Waara said. “Perhaps Isle Royale and Upper Michigan will earn more attention as a wilderness destination.”
