Bell, vocal choirs to perform

ISHPEMING — On Friday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m., the combined bell and vocal choirs of the four Evangelical Church in America Lutheran churches in Ishpeming will present a Good Friday Tenebrae service titled “It Is Finished” by composer Mary McDonald.

The service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming.

The 35-voice combined choir has been rehearsing every Wednesday during the season of Lent. They will be joined by oboe and cello.

Tenebrae is a special service for Holy Week. It comes from the Latin meaning shadows or darkness, so it is a service of shadows. The service makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of Holy Week from Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem to his death and burial.

All are welcome to join the four ELCA Lutheran congregations of Ishpeming, Bethany, Bethel, Faith and Trinity Lutheran churches, for this service of shadows.
