MARQUETTE — Westwood High School recently topped Marquette Senior High School 340-270 on WNMU-TV’s Upper Peninsula High School Bowl. Representing Westwood are: Joshua Mock, Brian Sundberg, Jeremy Herman and Joshua Morris. Peter Carson and Paul Vahamma serve as alternates for the Westwood team, and Gerald Riekki is their coach. Marquette team members are: Mike Smit, Rose Saari, Judd Spray, and Bryan Roti. Their coach is Rich Ryan, with Belinda Mathie and Alexa Hirst as alternates. The show’s host is Dr. David Goldsmith. High School Bowl double-headers ae shown at 8 p.m. Saturdays and repeated at 2 p.m. Mondays. The show is underwritten by Mead Paper of Escanaba.

K.I. SAWYER — Sixteen Red Cross Gray ladies were capped in ceremonies held recently in the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base Chapel. According to Sue Hale, chairman of the Gray Ladies at Sawyer, this is the second class to graduate at the base. The new Gray Ladies are Virginia Antflink, Lucy Aubil, Judy Barnes, Shelba Beatty, Jo Ann Chapman, Sue Close, Vivian Fausnacht, Marion Forward, Pauline Gabriel, Jan Harrop, Gail Thomas, Evie Trout, June Waters, and Katheryn Yeager. The Gray Ladies are a volunteer organization who assist the hospital staff. They work in pediatrics, in the clinic, laboratory, pharmacy, and in central supply. Speaker at the recent capping ceremony was Col. Daniel P. McLean, base commander. The capping was done by Maj. Virginia Waddell, chief nurse at the 56th USAF Hospital. Hrs. Hale handled the pinning and awarding of certificates.
