February 11, 1993 – MARQUETTE – The interior design business is a lot more than just wallpaper and curtains, say Karen Larson and Bob Adams, associates in the new Marquette firm, Karen Larson Interior Design. Larson, a Marquette native and 1990 environmental design graduate of Northern Michigan University, said that she and Adams are able to do what interior decorators traditionally do – help people choose color schemes and furniture. But just as important, they’re qualified to work with architects to create effective use of space for residential or commercial customers. Adams, a retired interior designer, moved here recently, and dropped by Larson’s business at 145 W. Washington St. Larson, whose business hadn’t been open long, was already too busy. So she advertised for an interior designer, and found “a kindred spirit.” Two weeks later he became an associate. Adams and Larson have been working with architects on office interiors in the Marquette Medical Center, where structural columns and open space have been incorporated with various lighting and color schemes. Larson said she encourages clients to choose schemes that never go out of style.

February 11, 1933 – MARQUETTE – Northern State demonstrated its superiority in basketball over Michigan Tech here last night by handing the Engineers a 23 to 29 defeat, the second the Marquette Teachers have given to their ancient rivals this season. Tech held the lead for a few minutes at the start of the game, but when Wilmers was injected into the Northern State lineup, the scoring perked up and the Teachers forged ahead. Wilmers made eight field goals and three foul shots, scoring half his team’s 28 points. Richards, another up-and-coming forward also turned in a good performance. Orem and Schroeger were the outstanding players on the Tech squad. The Northern freshmen beat the Michigan Tech Reserves, 47 to 32, with Wahtera and Fish doing the heavy scoring for Marquette. Northern State Teachers College was represented by Fagan, Niemi, Thoren, Ranguette, Wilmera, Holman, Doolittle, and Richards. Michigan Tech’s team consisted of Barkell, Isolampi, Angst, Schroeger, Barker, Oren, Hohner, Webb, and Mattson.
