GWINN — The Model Towner Homecoming crowd got quite a show Friday night as the Ishpeming Hematites battled to a 51-46 victory over Gwinn in Mid-Peninsula Conference action. The Model Towners had built an early 21-16 lead when guard Josh Suardini’s knee acted up, forcing him to the sidelines. “After that we couldn’t control the offense like we wanted.” Said Gwinn Coach Mike Forgette who, despite his team’s loss, was pleased with the performance. “Both teams played hard defense. It was a super game.” Coach Jerry Racine’s Hematites (8-3 overall) had 25 free throw opportunities, while Gwinn (3-11) had only two. Suardini and Matt Beauchamp led the Model Towners scoring with 10 points apiece. Greg Annala pumped in 19 to lead HIS.
