Poetry Slam is planned

MARQUETTE — A Poetry Slam at The Honorable Distillery Monday is sponsored by Pyre Publishing and the U.P. Poet Laureate Foundation.

The Poetry Slam will be a celebration of love or its absence by local word wizards. Poets will demonstrate their verbal magic at The Honorable Distillery, 136 W. Washington St., Marquette, Monday at 8 p.m. Celebrity judges will award prizes to three winners.

The public is invited to choose and cheer for your favorite bards. Taste fine spirits the Honorable Way. Donate to the U.P. Poet Laureate Foundation, a 501(c)(3), and bring home a bouquet for yourself or the one you love.

Sign up begins at 7:30 p.m. Performances start at 8 p.m. Competition rules: Bring three 3-minute-long poems of any style, Each poet will read one poem per round, Eliminations will begin at the end of each round. Participants should bring only their own poems, no music. The event press release states: “The Upper Peninsula Poet Laureate Foundation embraces the diversity of human experience and identity. All applications are welcome, Regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, cultural heritage, socio-economic background, or physical ability.”
