Land Conservancy Grants

MARQUETTE — The Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy, based in Marquette, has been awarded $10,000 from the Land Trust Alliance for several projects.

They are collaboration with local indigenous communities for strategic conservation planning for $7,500 and Dead River Community Forest acquisition for $2,500.

Other land conservancies awarded in the U.P. awarded grants were the Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy, based in Sault Ste. Marie, for $7,500 for an indigenous-based approach to advancing land conservation and water quality protection together, and the Landmark Conservancy, based in Menominee, for $8,000 for the Brownstone Trail swale project.

The Land Trust Alliance has announced more than $100,000 in grants to help land trusts in the Great Lakes basin to incorporate water protection more strategically into their work and support land trusts with the implementation of a water quality improvement strategy. The program is funded by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and The Volgenau Foundation.
