ISHPEMING — The inaugural “Take a Kid Fishing Derby” will be part of the Ishpeming-K.I. Sawyer Winter Fun Day Saturday. Fishing will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Teal Lake. Children must have an adult with them to do the fishing. The derby is sponsored by the Central Upper Peninsula Sportsfishing Association and the Greater Ishpeming Chamber of Commerce. Fishing association members will use snowmobiles to provide transportation to good fishing locations.

ISHPEMING — A 23-trophy winner in custom automobile shows in the United States will be entered in the custom car show to be sponsored by the Peninsula Pistons of Ishpeming and Negaunee in the National Guard Armory May 4-5. The car, a 1930 Model “A” Ford owned by Max Lane of Kalamazoo, Mich., is a remarkable example of what can be done to an ordinary car by men gifted with a mechanical knowledge unequaled in any automobile circles. Shown in seven states, this custom car has attained speeds up to 110 miles an hour in quarter-mile races.
