MARQUETTE — Bresnan cable subscribers approved four new channels for the Gwinn area but subscribers in Marquette and Munising did not. Subscribers were asked in November to vote for adding a package that includes the Sci-Fi Channel, Country Music Television, Comedy Central and the Cartoon Network. Gwinn subscribers approved the additional channels by 60 percent, compared to 29 percent in Marquette and 30 percent in Munising. Subscribers voted by returning postcards sent with their November cable bills.

MARQUETTE — A pledge of continuing cooperation by news media and educational institutions has been given to the Upper Michigan Tourist Association for its 1963 hospitality program. The program — to be conducted much along the lines of the first “It Pays to Know” campaign in 1962 — will be climaxed by presentation of prizes worth about $2,000 to the person selected as the Upper Peninsula’s No. 1 host, Ken Dorman, U MTA secretary-manager, told about 40 persons attending a meeting in the Hotel Northland. Briefly, he explained that the campaign was intended to give this 15-county region a “Texas-like” attitude toward its outstanding resources and at the same time better prepare business people for serving the many thousands of travelers who vacation in the Upper Peninsula during the summer.

Starting at $4.00/week.
