MARQUETTE -- Andrew G. Griffin was sworn in as judge of the 25th Circuit Court on Thursday at the Marquette County Courthouse by Marquette County probate Judge Cheryl Hill.

Griffin is filling the newly r

estored second judicial seat in the 25th Circuit Court.

Chief Circuit Judge Jennifer Mazzuchi presided over the ceremony.

Marquette County had lost one of its two circuit judges at the end of 2016 due to legislation passed in 2011.

However, the second circuit judge position was reinstated by state legislation passed in 2021.

Griffin ran unopposed in the Nov. 8 election.

"I am incredibly thankful to the citizens of Marquette County, including the members of the Marquette County Bar," Griffin said on his Facebook page. "We've got a good group of attorneys working in this county for our citizens. I look forward to working with them from a different perspective starting in January."

He was Marquette County's chief assistant prosecuting attorney from 2016-22, and assistant prosecuting attorney from 2011-16.

From 2008-11, Griffin had a private solo practice in Marquette that focused state/federal/military criminal defense, employment law and family law.

Griffin graduated from Marquette University in 2003 and joined the U.S. Air Force in 2004 as a judge advocate general. He served in the Air Force until 2008.
