ISHPEMING — The Greater Ishpeming Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the fifth annual Christmas lighting contest. Top winners are Robin Kangas of 709 N. Main St., first place ($100); Linda Cox of 49 Sunnyside Estates, second place ($50); and Doug Pearson of 30 Twin Pines Circle, third place ($25). Winning honorable mentions and $10 are Eugene Trudell of 802 Maurice St., Richard and Nancy Wood of 105 S. Pansy, Greg Beauchamp of 329 S. Lake St., and Arvid Thibodeau of 410 Alder St. The contest was sponsored by the Upper Peninsula Power Co. and the Ishpeming Beautification Committee. Winners were judged by the Hematite Business and Professional Women’s Club.

IRONWOOD — The Bonifas Lumber Co. sawmill at Marenisco will resume operations Tuesday, Dec. 27, as an unemployment relief measure, it was announced today. It is planned to operate on a basis of eight hours a day, five days a week. Approximately 100 men will be given employment in the mill while from 200 to 300 more will get work in the woods.
