MARQUETTE — The Marquette Super 8 Motel, located at 1275 U.S. 41, will participate in Super 8 Motels’ 1992 Rooms at the Inn program. The motel will offer free accommodations on Christmas Eve to anyone visiting a friend or relative in a nursing home, veterans’ home, hospital, or treatment center. “We want to eliminate lodging costs as a barrier to visiting a loved one over Christmas,” said Harvey Jewett, Super 8 Motels’ chief operating officer.

SKANDIA — Edward Swanson, Skandia, has been promoted to general freight agent of the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad Co., it was announced today by J.H. Kline, president and general manager of the railroad. Swanson joined the railroad in 1937 as a weighmaster. In 1944 he was appointed to a position as clerk in the accounting department and he became auditor in 1959. Swanson is a native of Skandia and has lived there all of his life, except for 15 years, when he resided in Marquette. A trustee on the Skandia Township Board, he also is a member of the Skandia Lions Club and the Marquette Masonic Lodge. Swanson is married to the former Lillian Hendrickson of Skandia. They have a daughter and a son, both married.
