BIG BAY — The 345 exchange in the Big Bay area will be hooked up to the Marquette County 911 systems at midnight Saturday. County 911 Coordinator Jeff Selesky said people should dial 911 if they feel an immediate response from police, fire, or ambulance services is needed to preserve either life or property. “Since we went on-line, we have received some life-saving calls,” Selesky said. “The system is a reality and it does work.” Test dialing 911 from home phones is not necessary, Selesky said, because the system was tested extensively before it went on line in June.

MARQUETTE — A registered Holstein cow owned by the Marquette State Prison has completed an official record bringing its lifetime production total to more than 100,000 pounds of milk, according to the Holstein-Fresian Association of America. The prison Holstein’s official test record was 105,530 pounds of milk and 3,489 pounds of butter-fat in 2,098 days. More than 14,900 Holsteins have exceeded the 100,000-pound production mark on official test. This volume of production represents approximately five times the lifetime total of the average dairy cow.
