MARQUETTE — Matthew D. Edgell of Marquette and Victoria Pergande of Negaunee have been initiated into the Northern Michigan University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. Edgell is a graduate student majoring in economics. Pergande, the daughter of Hans and Bonnie Pergande of Negaunee, is a junior majoring in elementary education with minors in math and Spanish. The honor society of Phi Kappa Phi, which was founded in 1897 and has chapters in 49 states. Students must be in the top 10 percent of the senior class, the top five percent of the junior class, or the top 10 percent of graduate students. Members initiated into the chapter will be eligible for the $100 Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship during the winter semester. The recipient will be nominated by the chapter for one of 25 national Phi Kappa Phi Foundation Fellowships for graduate school.

MARQUETTE — Four members of the Lake Superior Creative Arts Association are exhibiting some of their paintings during December in the Student Center lobby at Northern Michigan College. The exhibitors are Esther Lamb, two oils; Ann Heath, an oil and a watercolor; Betty Smith, and Eileen Lappe, both of K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, two oils each. The paintings will hang at the Student Center until the first of the year.
